Abstract
ABSTRACT
accordance with Law No. 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine. The culling of DOC must comply with animal welfare principles, using methods that minimize pain and stress. This applied research aims to design and test a DOC culling device using carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas in accordance with animal welfare standards. The research was conducted in two stages: Stage I involved the design and development of the culling device prototype, while Stage II included testing the device with two treatments (10% and 25% capacity of the DOC box) and three replications. The results showed that the designed device functioned effectively, with the average time to achieve immobility in DOCs ranging from 4.6 to 5.5 minutes. The higher the DOC capacity, the more CO₂ was required. Based on these findings, the CO₂-based DOC culling device is recommended for implementation in Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Indonesian Quarantine Authority to enhance efficiency and ensure more ethical culling practices in accordance with animal welfare principles.
